The Evolution of Tumbleweed Toys
Welcome to the first blog post!
I am Vanessa, the owner of Tumbleweed Toys. I figured a great way to welcome you to our new blog is to give you a background on how Tumbleweed Toys came to be what it is today.
I am an Early Childhood Educator by training and I have worked in a variety of occupations in the field. I once ran my own child care program and taught preschool. I have also taught adults in programs like the Good Beginnings program for home daycare providers in B.C. and the Alberta Level One Early Childhood Development Program. My education and work experiences combined with parenting my 3 children gave me a passion for good quality educational toys.
I was a stay-at-home mom in the spring of 2011 when the then 8 month old Tumbleweed Toys was up for sale. I was already a customer and loved the quality of products they carried and I was looking for something new so I jumped at the chance to own the shop. It was just 9 months old when I became the owner. I like to think of the stage before I bought it as the gestational 9 months and then I took over and Tumbleweed Toys as you know it was born.
If you have shopped with us since 2011 you will recall how the shop has grown and changed tremendously. In the beginning it was a tiny 800 square foot shop with mostly toys for very young children. As my kids grew older the shop has evolved with them. From wooden toddler toys and dolls then to Pokémon cards and strategy board games now too. My kids are now 21, 16 and 13 and it's really fun to still carry products that they love now as well as the products they were fond of as little kids.
We have grown and expanded the shop 3 times since 2011 and will be growing it again this summer. Our next move is taking over the whole building we are in to allow for more games, puzzles and fun products and provide us with an upstairs space to bring back our beloved events like game nights, craft times and puzzle competitions and more.
So if you didn't know before, yes, Tumbleweed Toys is locally owned and not a franchise. I am extremely proud of what we have built and so very thankful of the incredible loyalty of our customers. We have the best customers and it's so fun to come to work everyday and help you find the perfect gifts for all ages in your life. Knowing that not only can we help you find a new baby gift but also a great puzzle for Grandma. Tumbleweed Toys has evolved into a gift destination for all ages.
This evolution also happened so perfectly and organically because we have the best staff both past and present. Our amazing products have been discovered and implemented because our awesome staff are also passionate about new games, puzzles, candy and toys and it's a true team effort. Each one of our staff throughout the years has brought their own unique perspective and expertise that has grown this shop to what you see today.
So that's Tumbleweed Toys evolution in a nutshell. Thank-you for taking the time to read this first blog post and I hope that we can come up with great, interesting content for you in blog posts to come.
